Fall 2023
In this studio-wide urban vision plan our studio developed a proposal for a new neighborhood on the northern end of the island of Sant’ Helena in Venice, Italy. Situated in a historically industrial fishing and boat yard, the project sought to seamlessly integrate the site into the broader context of Venice while responding to its unique conditions and character.
Our design focused on the careful composition of public spaces, street patterns, building typologies, and, most importantly, the site’s relationship to the water. Key interventions included expanding the island’s existing “green belt,” introducing a central canal, and strategically placing various sized Campos throughout the neighborhood. These elements were designed to enhance the user experience, fostering the sense of discovery and exploration that defines the Venetian landscape, while also creating a community that feels both familiar and forward-thinking.
